BIKE RACES
The Daytona International Speedway has repaved the track. And the 2011 Daytona 200 Motorcycle Week will have a radical new look from season's past as Daytona International Speedway splits its two biggest races into back-to-back weekend events.

In recent years, the Daytona Supercross and Daytona 200 have been staged on consecutive days over the final days of 'Cycle Week on Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday. Now those two major motorcycle events will be held on different weekends during the traditional Bike Week time frame. The first weekend of activity will focus solely on the Supercross course, which will be carved into the infield grass dividing the tri-oval from pit road.

The Daytona Supercross, the birthplace of Supercross in the United States and the longest continuous Supercross event in America since 1971, will now kick off 'Cycle Week on Saturday night, March 5. The Daytona 200, a motorcycle race that has a history back to the 1930s, will be staged one a week later on March 12.

"Moving the Daytona 200 and Daytona Supercross to stand-alone weekends will further allow us to grow both events as well as the remainder of the March motorcycle schedule," Speedway president Joie Chitwood III said. "This new-look schedule gives motorcycle fans a better opportunity to enjoy all the different racing events that are showcased here."

The most historic, demanding and challenging Supercross event of the year, which has recently featured star riders such as Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Kevin Windham and Andrew Short, this year served as the finale to the two-wheel racing program. For more information, call the Speedway at 800-748-7467.

2010 Daytona Bike Week in Review

Motorcycle USA had more of a presence at Bike Week 2010. They had a booth at the Ocean Center for the International Motorcycle Show and handed out boxes of free MotoUSA Magazines and Daytona 2010 kozzies. "The kozzies were very popular," said Bryan Harley, Cruiser Editor at Motorcycle USA... as illustrated by Kristi at the Broken Spoke Saloon.

"We also had a little industry party at the Blue Grotto on Friday night, another Daytona first for the company. Stiff drinks, great food, the Dan Lawson Band and plenty of pretty spokes models meant all the necessary ingredients for a successful party were in place."

Other sponsors of the "Industry Party For All!" that was open to the public included ACCEL Motorcycle Products and V-8 Vanquish Motorcycles.

Here's a "most excellent" review by Bryan Harley

Roar Sisterhood Ride - Daytona Bike Week 2010

Daytona Bike Week 2010 - The Roar Sisterhood Ride was a beautiful event on the last Saturday morning. The sisterhood of riders was chased by a CBS News crew in a red Mustang convertible as their police-escorted ride headed north on Tomoka Road to enjoy the curves and tree-canopied "loop" through the scenic inlet waterways of Ormond Beach.

The riders included Ms. Magman, Kristin Gracy of Southern Biker Magazine from Knoxville, Tenn.

Dianne Grieve from Ontario, Canada was also with the women, as they roared past The Cabbage Patch in Samsula, Florida on County Highway 415, heading for Lake Monroe.

Dianne took up riding in 2004 when her husband "got a bike again." She couldn't imagine herself riding on the back of a sportbike for the next 10 years, so she passed the riding test and got her motorcycle license. "I've been in the ditch," she said almost proudly. "I can highly recommend Roar's Ride Like A Pro training series. It really helped me after that." Dianne became passionate about riding and has also taken some higher level training at Daytona Beach International Speedway.

Roar Motorcycles - based at 897 Bellevue Ave. in Daytona Beach - builds and customizes bikes and offers riding gear designed for women.

Through the Roar Sisterhood, women motorcyclists are able to participate in rides, tours and charity events.

The company also empowers women to demonstrate Roar Motorcycles, become trainers, become dealers and open their own dealerships.
In January, Ed and Carol Avery joined Roar Motorcycles to launch a full events calendar in New England and at motorcycle rallies and charity events throughout the USA. Find RoarNewEngland on Facebook.

David Uhl & MeanStreet Riders - Daytona Bike Week 2010

Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 - Temperatures at Daytona Bike Week were in the 40s this morning, with a light rain due to pass by late morning. But tomorrow will be a sunny day and a good riding day with temperatures in the 60s -- possibly a good day for the Meanstreet Riders to visit Harley-Davidson commissioned artist, David Uhl, who is painting in front of Destination Daytona.

The MeanStreet Riders' song “ High on the Hog” from their upcoming album was featured on a video created by Uhl to introduce his latest painting in the "Women of Harley" series - "Stella."

So, enjoy a listen and watch the latest Uhl painting come to life before your eyes.

INTRODUCING STELLA - There's a new girl in town

Uhl Studios

The MeanStreet Riders are still finishing up their LP and video for early summer, but they are at Daytona Bike Week and a few of the riders are expected to come by and say hello to David Uhl.

Born in a small fishing village in Michigan, David Uhl earned a scholarship to attend the Colorado Institute of Art. An avid Harley owner since 1988, Uhl's passion would soon coincide with his artistic talent. Harley-Davidson Motor Company executives recognized David's creative talents and introduced him to Segal Fine Art, a licensed publisher of Harley-Davidson fine art.

David spends endless hours in the Harley-Davidson Archives researching vintage photos to use as reference for his official fine art paintings. Captivated by the extraordinary history of the Motor Company, David's desire is to memorialize the legacy.

The MeanStreet Riders music group was formed in the fall of 2008 when a group of songwriters from NW Florida spent 4 days in NC riding some of the worlds most challenging and dangerous roads.

The members of the Rock band include Shannon Wallace, Dowlin Mayfield, Blair Colson and Tommy Dawson.
